John Hofmeister
Concerned about increasing gas and other energy costs? Want to know why the price per gallon of gas continues to grow while oil company profits continue to skyrocket at the same time? Wondering about how the United States can ensure and diversify its energy supply for the future? Well, who better to address these and other questions than Tiger Bay’s next featured speaker– John Hofmeister, President of Houston-based Shell Oil Company? Mr. Hofmeister became President of Shell in March 2005 after serving as Group Human Resource Director of the Shell Group, based in The Hague, The Netherlands. His visit is part of A Dialogue with Americans on Energy Security, a cross-country tour in which he and other members of Shell leadership meet and engage in discussions with a wide variety of people on a highly important topic: what it will take to meet the energy challenge. Hofmeister believes that to ensure US energy for the future, the energy industry must address the delicate balance between energy production and consumption with increased supply. He calls for a full array of energy sources: conventional oil and gas-including access to resources presently off limits in offshore waters and on federal lands-as well as unconventional oil and gas from oil shale and oil sands. In addition, he encourages development of clean fossil fuels and alternative and renewable energy sources, while conducting business in socially and environmentally responsible ways.
