Dan Gelber
Republicans and Democrats both identify him as one of Florida’s sharpest Democratic legislators. He has openly questioned the economic impacts of the ambitious plan by House Republicans to overhaul Florida’s property tax system. He has referred to the Republican plan(s) as “trickle down economics” and that these types of plans have proven not to be effective. He is Dan Gelber, D-Miami Beach , Florida House Democratic Leader or House Minority Leader–depending on your party affiliation. Representative Gelber serves as the point person for Democrats in the ongoing debate over property tax reform and other major legislative initiatives being considered by the Florida Legislature. While Democrats remain outnumbered nearly 2-to-1 in the House and Senate, they are seemingly strengthened by still having enough votes to veto Republican attempts to put a tax reduction plan before the voters in a statewide special election this year. This element, combined with a new Governor and new leadership in both the House and Senate, have appeared to encourage more dialogue across the aisles. Please join the Capital Tiger Bay Club at the Silver Slipper on Thursday, March 29, when House Democratic Leader Dan Gelber provides his perspective on the property tax reform efforts in Florida and other major legislative issues likely to emerge from the current Legislative session.
