County Commission Candidates Forum
Wednesday, September 24, 2008
The race for County Commission At Large Group 1 has been a “lively” one in recent weeks and is undoubtedly the hottest and most controversial in recent years. Incumbent Ed DePuy faces a runoff with challenger Akin Akinyemi in the November 4, 2008 general election. While the candidates themselves have appeared to approach this race in a professional manner and have tried to communicate their issue and priority differences, this race has attracted third party interest from the Florida Police Benevolent Association (PBA). More specifically, targeted mailings and radio advertisements alleging ethical misconduct against Commissioner DePuy were paid for by the PBA. DePuy claims the PBA’s involvement is strictly a political one, is related to his position on City/County consolidation, and that the PBA vowed “to take me down” in this election. To sort out these issues and to provide better insight into the two surviving candidates, the Capital Tiger Bay Club will host a Forum involving Commissioner DePuy and Mr. Akinyemi. Please join us at the Silver Slipper on Wednesday, September 24, 2008 for this important political forum and come prepared with your questions.
