Charlie Crist

Given the headlines produced by the Florida Legislature during the past Legislative session(s) he has flown quietly under the media radar screen. Known in his Senate Legislative days as “Chain Gang Charlie”, Florida Attorney General Charlie Crist has always been a strong supporter of law enforcement and tough sentencing guidelines. He sponsored the Stop Turning Out Prisoners (STOP) legislation which requires prisoners to serve at least 85% of their prison sentences. With the recent passage of the Dr. Marvin Davies Florida Civil Rights Act, Attorney General Crist has been given unprecedented authority to pursue alleged civil rights violations in Florida. Most recently, he has entered the political/legal fray of the ACC’s expansion efforts by seeking a dismissal of the complaints filed trying to prevent the University of Miami from joining the ACC. As a former quarterback for Wake Forest University and compassionate conservative he may want to reconsider this position. Now let’s see, he has served in the Florida Senate, as Education Commissioner and Attorney General, and assuming that he has no interest in the Agriculture Commissioner post (although his tan brings this assumption into doubt), what statewide, elected position in Florida is left for Mr. Crist to pursue? Come join us on Wednesday, August 13 at the Silver Slipper when Mr. Crist visits the Capital Tiger Bay Club!
